About Music at St. Michael’s
St. Michael’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant parish in Raleigh, NC with a commitment to the finest music of our Anglican tradition. Music is an important part of our mission. Choirs for adults, teens, boys and girls afford opportunities for singers to offer their very best musical gifts in the worship of God. Singing in a choir is a great commitment indeed, but the rewards are even greater.
The training of singers in grades 3 through 12 is guided by the Royal School of Church Music’s Voice for Life chorister training program. Not only do singers learn to use their voices well, but they also learn the skills essential to becoming intelligent singers who not only “sing with the spirit, but with the understanding also.” We know that children and teens can learn to sing and read music with expertise, as well as any adult.
The 2011/2012 choir season will be extraordinarily exciting as we welcome our new pipe organ, built by Nichols & Simpson Organbuilders of Little Rock, Arkansas. Designed in the spirit of the great English cathedral organs, this instrument will bring the music of our worship to life in ways never before possible. A north transept was recently added to the main church, adding even more spaciousness to the already fine acoustic of the church. See the Special Events page for detail of upcoming events featuring the new organ.
On this website, you’ll find more detailed information about each of St. Michael’s choirs. Please be in touch with our Director of Music, Kevin Kerstetter, if you have questions, or if you’d like to see if one of our choirs would be a good match for you or your child.
